RUMFORD -- Under warm but dry conditions on June 23, two dozen runners, ranging from age 11 to 62, participated in the 16th annual River Valley 5K.

The race, which started from the Hosmer Field Complex and headed out along the neighborhood streets, finished along the scenic Swift River walking path to the track around Chet Bulger Field.

Compiling the fastest overall time was Billy Nicols, 51, whose pace of 3:55 per mile enabled him to defeat challenger Mark Bolduc by 20 seconds with a time of 19 minutes, 35 second.

The best time among females belonged to Dirigo student Natalie Bolduc at 23:12, who was more than five minutes faster than her closest female runner, Kate Bonney, another teen, by running a pace of 4:38 per mile.

The event was hosted by the River Valley Rotary Club and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, with Bangor Savings Bank as the elite sponsor. The Chisholm Ski Club used their equipment to time the race, with result posted on their website.
