Locals named to MVC all-star teams

REGION -- There are always student-athletes who create additional attention by standing out and opposing team recognize it. Over one dozen student-athletes from Mountain Valley and Dirigo shined while competing throughout the fall.

The coaches from every team met and had an opportunity to nominate players for respective Mountain Valley Conference all-star teams.

The voting was for first and second teams, or honorable mention. For the second straight year, Natalie Bolduc of Dirigo was voted first team in both girls' soccer and cross country. The dual sport standout had a busy fall as did the x-c team that won the lone MVC championship in the River Valley this fall. The Lady Cougars edged Boothbay, 66-70, to earn the MVC crown.

Bolduc finished runnerup in the MVC meet and all five runners were recognized, with Jessica Conant also on first team. Freshman Sabrina Daoud was named to the second team, while Silvia Lutick and Megan Bradbury were each honorable mention. Also on the girls' soccer first team was Kayla Gaudin (1 goal, 1 assist), who split time between sweeper and center midfielder. She received thr Cougar Award for top defender.

Bolduc had a team-leading 24 goals and 8 assists, (career 74/32). On the second team were Lindsy Crutchfield (2/6), who won the Cougar Coaches Award. Natasha Deroche (six shutouts in 2012, for career -- 66 goals allowed in 61 total games) and defender Ambyr Wilson were honorable mentions.

Bolduc and Deroche were chosen to the Western Maine All Star team by the Maine soccer coaches for the third and second time, respectively.

The Mountain Valley boys' soccer team accomplished a goal by making the playoffs, led by senior stopper Garret Carver, who was chosen to the second team.

Honorable mentions were winger Andrew Phelps and center-midfielder Austin Glover.

The Dirigo boys' soccer team had top scorers Chad Snowman (19/7) and Hunter Ross (10/13) on the first team, while TJ Frost made second team. Trevor Newman and Brian Volkernick were honorable mention.

In field hockey, Dirigo advanced to the SM semifinals and was awarded the Sportsmanship banner. Fullback Megan Brann made first team. The trio of Ellie Wainwright, Rylee L'Italien and Brittany LaPointe were named to the second team. Goalie Amanda Dolloff and Britney Ellis were honorable mention.

Burgess and Fryover earned first team. Provencher (career 23, 6) and Gallant were honorable mention. Robbie Babb of Dirigo was honorable mention in golf.
