Band of Gypsies toy ride Sunday
MEXICO- Do you ride a motorcycle? Do you enjoy seeing smiles on faces of children at Christmas time? Are you looking to become a part of something big? Well, look no further. A local motorcycle group, Band of Gypsies, will be setting off on Sunday morning at 10 from the Mexico gazebo behind the town office for their first annual Toy Ride.
The group began as a couple dozen riders who wanted to help make Christmas a little more special for area children whose parents may not be able to afford much, if anything at all. In the last month, they have shot up to over 300 members through their Facebook page.
“This is a group effort,” noted Scott Belskis. “Everyone is here to do their part and help bring a few smiles to the area.”
Band of Gypsies will be leaving Mexico on Sunday and head for Errol, New Hampshire and then ride back to fellow members, Ed and Shelley Bronish’s for a cookout, where they will each donate a toy for the cause.
“This is a great opportunity to get together and relax with good people and enjoy the day,” stated Audrey Coffin.
The group, found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/491742620845747/, is consistently updating their page and letting anyone and everyone join in on the mission.
Fellow member, Scott May, stated in an online newsletter of sorts, in delight over the influx of members, that the group has more than 330 members with their riding arm being at 63 and with three events planned, he put a call out to all who wish to help.
“We are loaded with talented and caring people, including an assistant principal, retired MC members, former UBM members, a town selectman, business owners, sheriff’s deputy firemen and YOU. Whether you give an Xbox 360 or a matchbox that will do a 360, YOU matter. Whether you give $200 or $2, you matter. Whether you work an event or just bring what you can give, you matter. There are over 300 “yous” I’m talking to out there. All of you together make us, who can make a difference- let’s do it!”
