Route 232 closed for repair
RUMFORD CORNER- Until September 23, travelers who normally cut across Route 232 from Rumford Corner to Route 26, will be detoured due to the replacement of a large culvert that has closed the road approximately one mile from the Route 26 junction.
Maine Department of Transportation, Project Manager, Doug Coombs, stated, “We have completed removal of the old culvert and are working to get the new one in place by our deadline next week.”
According to Coombs, the old culvert was “structurally deficient and was in a bad state of deterioration.” Workers are replacing the old steel culvert with an arch-style culvert which stands on concrete footings.
With Route 232 closed to thru traffic, motorists are being detoured, from the Rumford side, down East Bethel Road to Route 26.
