$25,000 theft at Mexico business
MEXICO -- A major theft of copper took place recently from Rare Woods USA LLC on Swift River Road.
Mexico Police Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said they are searching for thieves who stole an estimated $25,000 worth of copper wiring, tools and other items from the former J.A. Thurston mill sometime between the evening of Friday, May 20 and 5 a.m. on May 23.
"I'm looking for anyone who may have seen someone in a large vehicle with a large amount of wire," noted Hodsdon.
Of the thieves, he said, "They knew what they were after. There's significant damage to the electrical system there."
Hodsdon said the thieves forcibly entered the business through a window stripped and stole all the copper and other wiring from machinery.
As far as the tools, Hodsdon said he has contacted local pawn shops and has entered the information in a program to track pawn shops all over New England. "I'm now in the process of checking with salvage yards."
The business, which began here three years ago, buys and sells rare woods from all over the world.
Anyone who has any information regarding this burglary is urged to contact the Mexico Police Department at 364-5686.
