Paint the County Purple, stop the violence
OXFORD COUNTY- October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Safe Voices, along with their partners at the Oxford County Domestic Violence Task Force are asking for area businesses, non-profits and other organizations to help stop the violence by helping them paint the county purple.
How can you help spread the word and change the world?
You can start by participating in the window decorating contest by outfitting a window of your store, shop or school for the month of October. Judging will take place on October 3 and 4, with the winners being announced on October 14.
Ideas for your window include, but aren't limited to: hanging the informational poster that explains why the color purple and provides information for resources that are available, display purple items in your window or reception areas, hang purple lights and pass out purple ribbons which you can obtain from Safe Voices.
Judging, performed by area youth, will be looking for how well you conveyed the message of awareness of domestic violence and available resources, creativity and use of the color purple.
Your participation will be acknowledged in the ongoing Paint the County Purple campaign. Winners will receive a recognition plaque to display for the year, a picture of their winning display featured in the local papers along with an opportunity for promotion in the next month's OCDVTF's Wait! What? column.
If you find that you would like to continue to be a part of the coordinated community effort throughout the year, you can attend OCDVTF meetings the first Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., become a volunteer, follow the Wait! What? column in the Rumford Falls Times and Advertiser Democrat and share the information with a friend or you can make a donation.
