There is hunger in the River Valley

RUMFORD- There are currently 54 senior citizens in the River Valley on the Commodity Supplemental Food Program waiting list with another 150 waiting in the Southern Oxford County area.

Help us feed the hungry, the elderly in the River Valley area.

The Mountain Valley High School Peer Helpers will be hosting a food drive on May 15 from 9:30 a.m. till 12 p.m. during the Healthy Hearts 5K event being held at 94 River St.

This food drive will allow those hungry community members the opportunity to have access to much needed food for their cupboards.

Did you know that the majority of Maine’s elderly people live on incomes of less than $15,000 a year and that 195,000 Mainers are food insecure?

The following is a list of urgently needed items to help feed our hungry citizens: canned fruits and vegetables, canned meats (tuna & chicken), spices, tomato sauces, dry beans, peanut butter, pasta/rice and multi-grain cereals.

If you are unable to attend on the day of the fundraiser, please contact Kristen Provencher and the Mountain Valley Peer Helpers by calling 364-4547 to make your contribution.
