It's spring turkey shootin' time!
PERU- Are you ready for a root-tootin', shot gun-loadin', turkey-shootin' good time? The Friends of Peru Elementary School are and they want you to join them for their spring Turkey Shoot on Saturday for a day of family-friendly target shooting and fundraising. No real turkeys will be harmed during this event.
The group plans to meet in Von's Pit in Dickvale from noon until 4 p.m. and participants can purchase rounds for just $1.50 each. They can bring their own shot guns (no chokes) or use those provided them by the FPES (.420, .20, .16 and .12). All ammo will be provided.
“If a child is big enough to safely handle a gun,” noted co-organizer Nick Waugh, “Then he or she is welcome to participate with parental supervision. The firing line will be very well supervised and we hope to make it almost foolproof.”
Participants will be shooting at paper targets and those with the most pellets in the target, and closest to the target score the most points towards the grand prize of a Winchester Centennial Model '66 .30-30 Carbine.
There will be food and beverages for sale, but please note that this is a substance-free, family-oriented event.
Directions to Von's pit are as follows: Take Dickvale Road four miles west of Rt. 108 to Dow Brook Road, turn right on Dow Brook Road (look for Von sign at turn) and in less than a mile look for Monkey Lane on the left.
Funds raised from the turkey shoot will benefit the mission of keeping the former Peru Elementary building open as a community center.
