Dailey urges classmates to define their success
DIXFIELD- Dirigo High School sent 75 young adults out into the world on Friday night to make their individual ways to whatever the future holds for them. Class valedictorian, Ryanne Dailey, urged her fellow classmates to make their own opportunities, to define their own success, and to not let others tell them what those successes should be.
“Remember the purpose of perseverance,” and “find motivation to succeed in whatever you choose to do.”
Other speakers included Travis Frost, relating his classmates to a box of puzzle pieces; Michelle Morrison, challenging her class to try new things and to not be afraid of making mistakes; and Kayla Provencher, urging her classmates to keep going and to never give up.
Vocals, See You When I See You, by Jason Aldean, were sung by the senior chorus and a duet by Adelaide Fuller and Fu Kiu, was performed to Paul Simon’s Bridge Over Troubled Water.
The crowd of proud parents, family members, teachers and friends stood, giving the speakers and vocalists rounds of applause.
After a touching look back on the lives of the graduates through a slideshow set to music, it was time for the graduates to receive those all-important, long-awaited-for diplomas. One by one, the class was called up as cheers from the audience went up and flashes strobed through the gym.
In the words of Michelle Morrison, “When is the last time you tried something for the first time? My thought is that it was recently enough.”
