Mrs. B's raffle supports Peru Rec
PERU- Carol Bernard, owner of Mrs. B's on Main Street has been a member of the small community for a little more than four years now and decided a few months back that she wanted to help raise money for the concessions/bathroom building that Peru Rec has decided to place near the town ball fields.
“The community has always supported me,” noted Bernard. “I wanted to show my appreciation and give back in a way that I was able to.”
It took her no time at all to collect donations from Pine State Beverage, Thurston Family Farm, Capital Candy, Nappi, Federal and Central Distributors, as well as Pepsi. They donated a hammock, tackle box, games, vegetable basket, key chains, hats and t-shirts.
“When I started selling raffle tickets,” noted Bernard. “I told everyone that I wanted to hit $300. Well, today I get to write a check to the Peru Rec Committee for $363. I'm glad I was able to help.”
Bernard stated that she got the idea from the annual raffle that the Peru Homemakers Extension holds. Tim Holland, Peru Rec Committee chairperson stated that there has already been $4,000 raised and another $6,000 is needed to fully fund the project. There is a trailer set up in front of the former elementary school for anyone wishing to donate their returnable bottles to the cause.
