Your voice is safe with purple
OXFORD COUNTY- If you were anywhere in the vicinity of Congress Street in Rumford or Market Square in Norway on Monday, you most likely noticed that many of the windows were decorated in purple.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Safe Voices, along with their partners at the Oxford County Domestic Violence Task Force, got the word out that they were looking to see windows decorated in purple for the month and for community members to dress in purple on October 3.
On Monday and Tuesday, teen members of the 11 Circles group were seen throughout the River Valley judging windows decorated for the cause. They were looking for how well businesses conveyed the message of awareness of domestic violence and available resources, creativity and use of the color purple. Winners will be announced on October 14.
Your participation in the Paint the County Purple will be acknowledged in the ongoing campaign. Winners will receive a recognition plaque to display for the year, a picture of their winning display featured in the local papers along with an opportunity for promotion in the next month's OCDVTF's Wait! What? column.
If you find that you would like to continue to be a part of the coordinated community effort throughout the year, you can attend OCDVTF meetings the first Wednesday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., become a volunteer, follow the Wait! What? column in the Rumford Falls Times and Advertiser Democrat and share the information with a friend or you can make a donation.
