RIVER VALLEY -- An effort is underway to pick up garbage from our roads as a fundraiser.

From now until September, six members (ages 6-10) of the King's Kids Adventurer's Club, with help from their parents, will fill small garbage bags on Routes 2, 108 and 142, as well as the Dickvale Road. They estimated they will fill up to 500 of these bags with items people have discarded.

One of the parents, Aprelle Callender, said, "We're looking for per pound or flat donation scholarships."

All proceeds will be donated to the community dinner in Dixfield, a soup kitchen sponsored by the Adventist Community Services, as well as to help finish construction on a larger kitchen and eating area at the church, located at 58 Pine St. in Dixfield.

Callender said they have assistance by public works departments in these communities, who will pick up the filled garbage bags on the roadsides.

She noted that families of their church also came up with other fundraisers, with all proceeds going to the same church projects.

For more information or to sponsor, call 357-8484. Callender said people are welcome to help volunteer in this effort.
