Over 100 Comfort Covers donated
RUMFORD -- Martha Hanington has crafted and donated more than 100 Comfort Covers to Rumford Hospital.
Comfort Covers are lap robes - some crocheted, some knit, some fleece, some quilted - that help patients feel not only warm but also cared for. Every inpatient receives a Comfort Cover.
Each lap robe carries a tag that urges patients to "please take it home with you."
Comfort Covers are made by volunteers, Caring Stitchers, some of whom are hospital employees. Some Caring Stitchers meet at the hospital; some do their work at home and bring the finished lap robes to the hospital.
The Caring Stitchers are always looking for people to join them every other Monday at their meetings or just bring lap comforters to Charlene Cooper, who will tag them and see that they are carefully stored away.
The crafters also appreciate donations of yarn so that knitters and crocheters on limited budgets can continue to produce lap robes. Anyone interested in joining the Caring Stitchers should call Cooper at 369-1038 for information about preferred sizes.
