RUMFORD -- The mercury was struggling to reach double-digits Saturday morning as a dozen volunteers worked to make Congress Street merry and bright.
There were three different groups busy putting up Christmas decorations in the window fronts of six empty store fronts. Before that, they had to clean the windows.
In one of those, four people worked on the two window fronts at the historic Clough & Pillsbury buildings, with a scene of a group of carolers on one side, and a human-sized Santa in the other.
The effort to make the Christmas window scenes happen was led by Envision Rumford! People used their own decorations, with donations of items from Bartash's and the Rumford Center Village Improvement Society.
