Hope Assoc. appeal is underway
RUMFORD -- For 55 years, Hope Association has provided a wide range of services for people with developmental disabilities. They are recognized and highly respected in the community for the work that they do.
They are looking for public support as their annual people in their effort to continue to provide services for more than 60 people, ages 18 to 68.
Executive Director Catherine Johnson said the goal amount for this year's appeal is $10,000, which they hope to raise by the end of October. To date, they've raised about $2,000. Last year's appeal raised about $7,800.
As part of the appeal, Johnson said they have sent out letters and emails to individuals who have supported Hope Association in the past.
This is the fourth annual appeal for Hope Association, which previously raised need funding through their annual Ride-In event in February. The start of the appeal coincided with a change in state law that the association could no longer provide work for their clients for their own benefit.
Hope Association works with the Department of Health and Human Services and other service providers.
Monies from the appeal supplements a decrease in funding as well as helps pay for many of the social activities not covered by MaineCare.
One of those activities involved clients spending a week at Camp Tall Pines in Poland, with they camped out and boated.
They have used donations in the past for a wide variety of things that have helped to improve the quality of life of the people they serve, such as assisting to purchase glasses and other adaptive aids. None of these donations go towards salaries, noted Johnson.
Hope Association also has other fundraising events, including Oktoberfest and the Fashion Shows. They also have the What Not Shop and had a successful event at Hosmer Field for the Fourth of July.
People are encouraged to visit their website: http://www.hopeassociation.org/ where there is a donation option that may be more convenient as well as their service descriptions and many photos of current activities.
