Lisa Keim is the republican candidate for Dist. 93 House of Representatives, which includes Dixfield, Canton, Carthage, Mexico and Peru.

She wrote the following about why she is running:

Like many of us, I have spent the past few years intently observing the state of our state and our nation. I have gone about my daily business, waiting for things to get better, hoping for someone to step up and provide leadership. What I have seen, however, is a deteriorating economy, increasing debt that is mortgaging our children's future and hardworking people being squeezed from every side. Our government at all levels seems concerned primarily with retaining power and securing re-election rather than focusing on the true well being of its citizens. To secure our future well being one thing is certain -- Maine needs jobs and it needs them yesterday.

As a lifelong Mainer who comes from generations of rural Maine farmers and business owners, I am optimistic because I know what this state is made of. Mainers are frugal and hard working. We dig in, we tough it out and we're here for the long haul, no matter how hard the road. I don't think that anyone of us -- or even any one party -- has all the solutions, but I do know that when we put our heads together and candidly confront our problems, great things can happen.

This is why I've decided to get off the sidelines, visit and mobilize my friends and neighbors and do what I can to help my state, my area and our families. That is why I running to represent Dist. 93 in November.

One could say I live a typical western Maine life. After going to college in New Hampshire and Atlanta, GA, I came back home because my husband, Blue, and I just couldn't see raising our children anywhere else. Blue works at NewPage in Rumford. We share the feeling, like many Mainers of our livlihood being in the hands of an insecure industry.

Our three children attend a combination of Dirigo High School and Lisa's academy right here at our kitchen table. We're active in our local church and we're active outdoors. We enjoy section-hiking the Appalachian trail, biking, snowmobiling, skiing, gardening and four wheeling. We share our property with two milking goats, two cats, 10 laying hens and a Brittany spaniel. Sometimes, they would like to think they share it with us.

Whether it's homeschooling a child, renovating a home or hiking a mountain, I don't begin anything without a goal in mind. My primary goal in the legislature will be to bring more jobs to our region and our state. This means empowering job creators, keeping tax burdens low and reducting regulations. It means being a good steward of taxpayer dollars so Mainers can keep their hard-earned money to spend on goods and services from other hard-working Mainers.

It means getting Mainers back to work by restraining the welfare system that has grown so out of control over the past several years. It means finding a way to bring back quality education to our schools, and to get parents involved in the process. It means equipping our children for the future without breaking the backs of taxpayers.

My campaign is one of listening. I want to hear your concerns and ideas so that I can be a strong voice in Augusta for smaller, more effective, more fiscally responsible government, effective schools, strong businesses, and a promising future for our children.

Together, we can find answers. I offer you my dedication, attention to detail and my common sense approach to problems. I promise to serve you and do everything I can to get our state on the right track. Maine isn't going to help itself. It needs all of us to pitch in together. Please join me in moving Maine forward in November.
