PO2 James Thibeau was at a change of command ceremony at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, CT on May 31, 2013.
This is the ninth in a series about graduates from Mountain Valley High School who are serving our country in the military.
Second Class Petty Officer James Thibeau is on active duty in the U. S. Navy and was lucky to be stationed in Maine for part of enlistment. He graduated from Mountain Valley High School in 2008.
PO2 Thibeau explained, “My first duty station was at Brunswick Naval Air Station, until it closed in 2010. From there I went to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL until 2012. I am currently stationed at Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, CT. I have also deployed to Sicily, Germany and Bahrain.”
He is a yeoman and explains his job, “In the civilian world, it is the equivalent to an administrative assistant. I process letters of correspondence, awards, and annual performance evaluations. I sort mail and maintain personnel records.”
His initial motivation to join the Navy is similar to many other sailors – he wanted to serve his country and see the world. As time has passed, his purpose has changed.
PO2 Thibeau said, “Now, I would say that my job motivates me. I like being in a customer service position, helping Sailors with any day-to-day administrative needs they may have.”
It sounds like he has found his niche in life, at least for now!
Asked what he would like folks back home to know, PO2 Thibeau answered like a recruiter, “The Navy and military in general is a wonderful experience that anyone out there can do. I highly recommend anyone thinking about enlisting to do it.”
He certainly sounds satisfied with his career choice!
PO2 Thibeau is the son of Trina Bellegarde of Rumford and James Thibeau of Norway. His brothers Thomas Thibeau and Jacob Bellegarde also live in Rumford.
