DIXFIELD -- Once again, the Opus One Big Band will entertain this community on Saturday, April 6 while raising money for a great cause -- the Dani Ranger Memorial Firefighter Scholarship.

Tickets on sale now and available at the door and desserts will be available during intermission.

The band is comprised of professional Maine musicians who support Maine music programs by performing benefit concerts throughout the state. The band has been playing for over 20 years and has performed for church concert series, music booster fundraisers and other charitable events.

The band is currently under the direction of Dale Perkins and includes music educators and performers from across the state. Dirigo High School music teacher, Ken Labrecque is member of the rhythm section and along with his music students, the Student Council and the National Honor Society at DHS he has arranged this event for the second year.

This year’s concert will also feature the Dirigo High School Band as well as our own local vocalist, Adelaide "Addy" Fuller. Opus One Band members include Joe Kingston, Curt Allen, Gary Walker, Sonja Hannington and David Rossler on saxophone; John Foss, Gary Comingore, John Reeves, Peter Stuart and Dianne Fenlason on trumpet; Doug Kennedy, Meg Hausman, Megan Kennedy and Penny Stetson on trombone; and rhythm section including Ken Labrecque, Mark Macksoud, Jan Gill and Greg Lindholm.

The Dani Ranger Memorial Firefighter Scholarship was started in 2011 to honor a courageous young woman who’s passion for life and helping others will live on in this community for years to come.

Thanks to the Opus One Big Band Concert held last year, DHS 2012 graduates Ian Fortin and Myriah Porter both received scholarships of $1,000 each. All look forward to a wonderful event this year and more room for dancing to wonderful music from greats like Glenn Miller and Nat King Cole.
