Photography business creates emotions
Karissah Anastasio is the business owner of Puzzle Mountain Photography. For her, photography isn't just her job, it's her passion, her life, her dreams, and her lifelong goal.
Colin Merrill obviously holds dear to his football career without having to even see his facial expression. The picture does not show his emotion on his face; rather, it makes you feel the emotion with him.
RUMFORD -- The year 2012 was an important one for Karissah Anastasio. She graduated from Mountain Valley High School and she created her own business – Puzzle Mountain Photography, located in Rumford.
A year later, Puzzle Mountain Photography offers many services and samples can be viewed on its Facebook page. Anastasio photographs student school pictures; senior portraits; babies, toddlers and children; families and groups including pets; expecting mothers; couples, engagements and weddings; business promotions; animals; and landscapes and homesteads.
So what would motivate a young person to start a new business in photography? For Anastasio, the answer is simple. She loves it!
Anastasio explained, “I am moved by photography, completely floored at the emotion and true beauty that can be captured in one single frame. When I see photos that move me, I get this feeling throughout my whole body that is unexplainable. You know how you feel when you travel somewhere new or some place completely spectacular? That’s the feeling I get -- sort of like wanderlust; I just want more of it. When people tell me how much they love my work it motivates me to do more, to set my bar higher. I’m building my ladder to success as I climb it and I would not want to do it any other way.”
Even though she loves all types of photography, she particularly likes weddings and senior portraits.
“I love doing weddings because there is so much to capture and hold on to,” she explains with happiness in her eyes. “There is so much positive energy and I feed off that. The immense amount of passion and love, you just feel it. I love digging deeper with my focal points. It’s not just a bride and groom standing in front of their family and friends; it’s a realization that someone is your other half and they make you whole. So you become one with each other through the bad times, amazing memories, and so much love.”
A satisfied customer also noticed Anastasio’s passion in capturing wedding memories.
Sherry Dupuis wrote, “Karissah Anastasio took my wedding pictures last summer. She was very professional and I had an amazing experience with her. Karissah made it fun for everyone. You could tell in her eyes that taking photographs is her passion, she loves to capture people's happiness and memories. Her work is simply amazing. I highly recommend her to be your photographer for any occasion.”
Anastasio’s second love is doing portraits for graduating seniors.
Anastasio said, “As for senior photos, I just get so excited to do senior photos. I was never one who really enjoyed or liked school, until I graduated and realized I could never go back. Senior photos to me define a person; it’s their first step on their last set of stairs. I feel like in your senior year that is when you really find “you.” It is one of the most memorable years of not only school, but life. I guess senior photos are one of my favorites because it’s my way of holding on to school- the only way I really can.”
Fun seems to be a recurrent theme among Anastasio’s customers.
“Having my senior pictures done with Puzzle Mountain Photography was one of the most fun and exciting things I've ever done,” said Jena Plourde. “Kissy (Anastasio) is a very easy outgoing girl who makes you feel comfortable in your own skin and she's pretty much up for anything so you'll always end up with unique photos you wouldn't get with other photographers in town. My most favorite part of having my pictures done with Puzzle Mountain was when Kissy and I were reviewing our shots for the day nine times out of 10 we'd look at a shot and reply with ‘awww I love this one, oh and this one, and this one too!’ I would definitely recommend Puzzle Mountain Photography to any one looking to get their photos done in the future."
Listening to Anastasio describe her work, it is easy to hear her enthusiasm and passion. She began this journey at a young age and is fulfilling her dream.
Anastasio recounted, “I’ve done photography since my middle school years and then once I hit high school I was just dying to get into the photography class. I took digital photography and basic photography with Mr. McGinty (art teacher at MVHS).”
“From Mr. McGinty, I learned that technical aspects of my camera and I also got a feel for analog photography,” she continued.
“Developing your own photos is so interesting, a little frustrating but definitely adds fun to the job.”
Puzzle Mountain Photography offers many services and Anastasio has an eye for beauty in many situations.
