Child Advocacy Day this Saturday
RUMFORD -- The Rumford Eagles will host a Child Advocacy Day for area youth on Saturday at the Rumford Eagles.
From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., representatives from local police, medical and fire departments, along with groups from the Greater Rumford Community Center, Oxford County Sheriff, Mexico Recreation Department, Rumford Hospital, RSU #10 Wellness Team and other youth groups will have presentations to benefit the children as well as their parents.
Some of the programs included will be eye retina scanning done by the Rumford Police Dept. (this program is new technology for child identification and replaces finger printing), the Rumford Fire Department with a interactive phone that demonstrates how to use our 911 system in emergencies and a team from Rumford Hospital.
There will be a bicycle safety rodeo, ATV safety, bounce tent, games, prizes and face painting. The Rumford Fire Dept. will be having a Chicken Barbecue from 11 a.m. until sold out.
After 2 p.m., there will be Wii Playstation set up on the big screen with opportunity to win prizes. From 8 p.m. to midnight, adult entertainment will be provided by the Hooligans.
This day is also a fundraiser for the participating youth groups -- GRCC, Mexico Rec, RSU #10 wellness team, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Explorers, Girl Scouts, Area Youth Football, Area Youth Cheerleaders, Area Youth Ministry.
Throughout the day, various fund raising activities will be going on with tables set up for donated raffle items, hot dog sales, 50/50 and admission for the evening entertainment.
All money raised will be divided evenly amongst all the participating youth groups. Cost for the dance will be $5. (no charge for Eagle members with card).
