News from Oxford County Democrats

BETHEL -- The Oxford County Democrats met on March 18 at the Crescent Park School.

Sam Spencer, Maine¹s Democratic National Committeeman, spoke to the group, highlighting the upcoming state and national conventions, and the accomplishments of President Obama.

County Chair Cathy Newell announced that anyone interested in being named to fill open convention delegate slots should contact her, and slots will be filled in April. The Convention is on June 1-3 in Augusta. The meeting produced several boxes of food items for donation to local food pantries.

The Democratic House caucus held a fundraiser on March 25 at the home of Anne and David Stanley on Paris Hill, honoring Rep. Terry Hayes of Buckfield, and House candidates Mike Broderick of Bethel and Mary Lou St. John of Norway.

Oxford County Democratic Candidates were successful in securing the required signatures to qualify for the June primary ballot. The legislative candidates seeking Maine Clean Elections funding are finishing up the collection of their $5 qualifying contributions due on April 20.

Legislative candidates are Sen. John Patrick, Dist. 14, Dennise Whitley for Senate Dist. 13, Mike Broderick, House Dist. 91, Rep. Matt Peterson, Dist. 92, Rep. Sheryl Briggs, Dist. 93, Rep. Terry Hayes, Dist. 94, Mary Lou St. John, House Dist. 95, Larry Sirois, House Dist. 96, Rep. Helen Rankin, House Dist. 97, Lisa Villa, House Dist. 98, Debra Black, House Dist. 99, and Colin O'Neill, House Dist. 100. County candidates are Jane Rich and Charleen Chase, candidates for County Commissioner seats on the ballot, and Carol Gutekunst for Register of Probate.
