REGION -- As a cost-savings measure, this Friday will mark the first of three furlough days for employees of Western Foothills Regional School Unit 10.
The two other unpaid furlough days will take place on March 23 and April 13. Supt. Tom Ward said the unpaid furlough days will save the district about $336,000.
This is being done so the district can maintain their 2011-12 flat-funded operational budget of $34.2 million.
The result of this means that teachers lose all but one of their staff development days, but they will maintain staff development on the late-arrival Wednesdays when classes begin an hour late.
