Greaney announces candidacy for Senate Dist. 14 seat
RUMFORD CENTER -- Len Greaney, Rumford Center resident, has announced his candidacy for Maine State Senate District #14.
“Maine, the way life should be!” Unfortunately, “should be” is not the current reality. Maine is experiencing a serious economic downturn affecting the lives of numerous willing workers.
Our new college graduates, other unemployed and under-employed citizens are looking for legislative leadership to support the businesses we depend upon for job creation. Additionally, the elected legislature must commit to eliminate the perception of Maine as an entitlement society to retain and attract businesses. Clearly, we must provide a safety net for children, the handicapped and the elderly without sustaining or expanding entitlements for able-bodied citizens. Historically, increases in entitlements have been driven when well paying JOBS are not available. We must break the cycle with jobs, analysis of the data represented by the current entitlement system and compassion for the truly needy among us.
If elected, Len will be a full time Senator working each day, with enthusiasm, to improve the lives of the people of Maine. He will bring leadership, compassion, experience and energy to the Maine State Senate by submitting and leading the enactment of meaningful legislation. He understands the importance of demonstrating independence, vision, principles, teamwork and reasonable compromise when sponsoring legislation.
He will campaign as an Independent ensuring freedom from political party influences. During his lifetime, he has changed party affiliation from Democrat to Republican to Independent for all the right reasons without changing his principles and values. It seems that the two major parties have introduced a new and unacceptable level of dysfunction in Augusta and in Washington.
This is the time for voters to set aside their party politics allegiance and focus attention on important bi-partisan issues needing resolution. Len will submit legislation relative to social and business issues needing resolution.
Decision: Len decided to campaign for the State Senator role after examination of the State Senate website (www.Maine.gov/legis/senate). A review of the submitted legislation by each of the 35 senators indicated a significant difference. Our District #14 incumbent did not submit any legislative bills although he was a member of two standing committees. We need a change! Our district needs leadership representation in the Maine State Senate.
Len is a retired senior manufacturing/engineering manager and process consultant for two Fortune 500 computer companies; married to Mary E. (Hoyt) Greaney of Rumford Center; dedicated father and husband; served in the USAF; Program Manager Veteran Research activities; past Rumford Town Manager; past Co-Chairman of RSU #10 Consolidation Committee; board member WVAC TV7; member of SCORE, American Legion and Oakdale CC.
As State Senator, he is committed to provide professional and trusted leadership to sponsor important legislation. His business, personal and municipal experiences relate very well to the 16 Maine Legislature Standing Committees: including but not limited to Education & Cultural Affairs; Health & Human Services; Veterans and Legal Affairs; Labor, Commerce, Research & Economical Development; Taxation; Criminal Justice & Public Safety; Energy, Utilities and Technology; Transportation; and State & Local Government.
Please review Len’s Website (www.greaneyforsenate) to observe the rationale for his candidacy including a comparison of his experiences and record of accomplishments to those of the incumbent.
Len will visit each Senate District #14 community to listen to, acknowledge and clarify issues, which may concern you, and he will request and expect your vote in the November election.
