Job Fair coming to Rumford
RUMFORD -- CareerCenter Services has scheduled a Job Fair for veterans as well as the public from 9 to noon on Thursday, Nov. 7.
More than 20 businesses plan to be there for this event, to take place at American Legion Post 24.
Patti Gray, a CareerCenter consultant, said she and co-worker John Wagner, veterans representative, decided to try a Job Fair in Rumford as "an experiment."
She said they have had monthly Job Fairs in Lewiston, but they have not been getting the kind of draw from people living away like they would like. "So the thought was we would try going out into the area and see what happens."
"We're excited to come to Rumford for this," said Gray, noting that the businesses represented at the Job Fair are from the Rumford area.
Employers attending include: Adecco, Assistance Plus, Beacon Hospice (an Amedisys Co.), Bonney Staffing, Care and Comfort, FedEx Ground, Genesis Healthcare -- Sandy River Center, Gorham Paper and Tissue, Kelly Services, Maine National Guard, Maine Vets Home -- South Paris, New Balance, Oxford Casino, Staff Management, Sunday River, The Progress Center, U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and Xerox.
Veterans' resources include: Maine Job Corps; VOANNE, US; Vet Center; Vets Inc.; and Women Unlimited.
The Job Fair will include a room just for veterans' services.
Post 24 Commander Trisha Thurston said she hopes this will be "something along the lines of the events I have seen like 'Hiring Our Heroes.'"
"Our members side will be used for all veterans who are able to come on this day. It will hopefully be successful. I am very pleased that they are taking the time to do this for our veterans and others who are seeking employment," she said.
The Maine Dept. of Labor provides equal opportunity in employment and programs. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.
