Watermelon Wine and Colin Merrill at Kaleidoscope
RUMFORD -- Watermelon Wine and Colin Merrill will display their skills in individual sets at Kaleidoscope on Friday, August 2 at 49 Franklin in the Mystic Theater.
Kaleidoscope is River Valley’s once a month party for the arts which includes performing arts as well as visual artists painting or sketching during the event. Come see a fresh canvas and the beginning of a work which is usually finished by the end of the night, Kaleidoscope runs from 7 to 10 p.m. There is no admission fee but there is a fishbowl for tips which go to the artists and performers.
Add up 151 years of experience in this newly formed Country/Classic-rock trio featuring Billy Scott on fiddle and guitar , Bobby Hodgkins on bass guitar, and Naomi Patrie on percussion. Their name “Watermelon Wine” was picked by Scott’s wife Becky, she has just always liked the sound of it and thought it would make a nice name for the group.
Billy Scott picked up a fiddle when he was 10 years old and has continued to hone his skills throughout the years. Scott now 72 years young has been a part of the fabric of the Western Maine music scene, playing a variety of instruments in country bands and as a solo act off and on for over 6 decades. Best known for his work on the fiddle Scott makes it look easy, some folks say he plays “Devil Went Down to Georgia” like he's signing his own name. The three will play an ambitious variety of Country, Classic Rock, and All Time Favorites including Charlie Daniels, Beatles, George Strait, and Herman’s Hermits.
Also August features Colin Merrill who recently won the Mountain Valley High School Talent Contest with his rendition Brantley Gilbert’s "My Kinda Crazy." Colin’s Kaleidoscope performance will include songs by Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean and other country favorites.
