Missions at the Airport

RUMFORD -- This weekend, Wycliffe/JAARS pilots once again will descend into western Maine.
This is the sixth Missions at the Airport event in the Rumford/Mexico area, and the fourth at Zinck’s Field (Route 2 above the falls).
JAARS (Jungle Aviation And Radio Service) pilots, representing the technical division of Wycliffe Bible Translators, begin arriving Wednesday, September 12th. Mike Mower and Jeff Johnson will be flying in fresh from an event in Underhill, Vermont. As in past years, they will bring a STOL- (Short Take-off & Landing) Helio-Courier Bush Plane and a Robinson R-44 helicopter.
The rest of the team will arrive on Friday. Among them will be helicopter pilot/missionary and Filipino native Nard Pugyau, a perennial favorite with Missions at the Airport guests. The other expected JAARS reps are: Kent and Nancy Allain, Paul “Bart” Bartholomew, Jon and Julie Limmer, and Elizabeth Farnsworth.
The main event takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, and Sunday  from 1 to 5 p.m. Weather permitting, there will be low-cost scenic flights over the area, as well as demonstrations of precision flying. General admission to the event is free. To ride the plane costs $22 per person, and a helicopter ride will be $28 per person.
Once again, local youth groups and home school students will be selling refreshments, and sponsoring churches will be on hand to assist. On Saturday evening, there will be a free concert by Maine Gospel artists. For more information about this event call 418-1728.
