Road races in the River Valley

RIVER VALLEY -- Over the next two Saturdays, people can take part in 5K road races.

The first one, the second annual RSU 10 Dirigo Wellness Center 5K, begins this Saturday at 10 a.m., starting at the Wellness Center on 33 Nash St. in Dixfield.

However, before that, Med-Care will be available beginning at 9 a.m. to do heart screenings, and Sandee Conley will be doing a yoga stretch from 9-9:30.

Organizer Laurie Soucy said, "We are looking for folks to do mini massages and Reiki sessions before and after the race."

The fee is $20 in advance $25 the day of the event. Folks can register at the Dirigo Wellness Center or online at Active.com. The first 50 people registered will receive a T-shirt. Ribbons will be given to the top two finishers in each age class.

The route will leave the Wellness Center on Nash Street, to Weld and take a right up Weld to Blayne St, from Blayne to Beedy Brook Lane, across to Bull Rock Lane back to Blayne. From Blayne to Brackett, Brackett to Pine; Pine to High, High to Main; Maine to Weld, Weld to Highland, Highland to Nash.

The 16th annual River Valley Rotary/Chamber 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday, June 23 in the Hosmer Field Athletic Complex. Bangor Savings Bank is the elite sponsor of this run/walk.

The race starts from the Hosmer Field Complex and heads out along the neighborhood streets, finishing along the Swift River walking path to the track around Chet Bulger Field. There is a gradual grade increase to the water stop then a gradually decreasing grade to the finish. Split time and water station are provided.

The pre-registration fee is $20. Race day registration is $25. Registration the day of the race will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. with the 5K starting at 9 a.m. There will be awards given for the top three finishers plus top two finishers in each age group male/female.
