RSU 10 nears end of superintendent search
DIXFIELD -- The Superintendent Search Committee interviewed an applicant for the position of RSU 10 superintendent Wednesday afternoon.
Search Committee co-Chairman Jerry Wiley said the committee reviewed five applications for the position on May 20 and selected two candidates to interview. However, one dropped out of the running.
Wiley said about a dozen board members, administrators and teachers interviewed a man from southern Maine. He currently serves as an assistant superintendent.
“If everything works out, we hope to make a decision on June 3,” Wiley said.
This is the second round of applicants reviewed by the Search Committee since RSU 10 Superintendent Tom Ward submitted his resignation. Ward has taken a similar position in neighboring Farmington with RSU 9. He leaves RSU 10 on June 30.
The Search Committee declined to interview anyone from the first round of applicants.
At last week’s regular RSU 10 board meeting, Richard Abramson of Arundel was appointed as interim superintendent on a per diem basis during the summer months. Wiley said a 90-day notice is usually required for high level administrators.
Ward has led RSU 10 since its formation four years ago. Prior to that, he served as superintendent of one of the member districts, the former SAD 21, for six years.
