Two snowshoeing events on tap

RUMFORD/MEXICO -- The Snowshoe Club has a pair of snowshoeing competitions upcoming, both taking place on the track at the Mountain Valley Middle School.

Stephen Gallant said the first, the Fraternal Snowshoe Opening, will occur at noon this Sunday. The second, the American Snowshoe Union Opening, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 17.

Open to all ages, there will be a $3 registration for each event. Registration the day of the event will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Snowshoe Club on Waldo Street.

Snowshoes must be a minimum of 8x25 inches. Events will be meter runs of 50, 100, 400 and 800. Medals will be presented at the club following each event, with a trophy for the best male and female athlete.
