Tapping into tourism for non-tourism businesses
RUMFORD -- Envision Rumford, the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, Maine Woods Consortium, Maine Office of Tourism and the Western Maine Economic Development Council is offering an introductory workshop on the tourism industry in Maine and tourism resources for businesses from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, June 24 at Brian’s Bistro.
Getting a piece of the tourism pie takes planning, creativity, collaboration and a good knowledge of the basics. This workshop will explain industry terms, outline trade associations and destination marketing organizations and their roles, and most importantly connect you to resources in and around your community that can help your business be more successful.
Emphasis will be on programs and opportunities that are free or very low cost. You'll leave the workshop understanding how the tourism industry in Maine works and ready to tackle your business plan to reach new customers.
The workshop presenter is Margaret Hoffman, Development Project Officer for the Maine Office of Tourism. Margaret has a wealth of experience in program and event planning, marketing and retail operations. Margaret is the 2010 recipient of the Governor’s Tourism Award for Commitment to Innovation and Creativity.
The registration fee for this workshop, which includes a light dinner, is $12.
Pre-registration for this workshop is required. Contact Tammi Lyons at firstname.lastname@example.org, 364-3355 ext. 221 or Mia Purcell at email@example.com, 739-6543 if you are interested in attending.
