Winter 100 Miles in 100 Days wraps up
REGION -- Thirty eight people registered and 24 participants returned their completed self-tracking sheets for the Winter 100 Miles in 100 Days program, sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition.
The program, which encourages moving daily, began in February and ended on May 28. In total, the 25 recorded a total of 8825 miles of walking, running,
dancing or other activities with an average of 353 miles moved individually. Each participant was given a log sheet along with conversion charts for activities to track their steps which then were converted into miles.
All participants were invited to achieve their final miles with the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition's second Annual Healthy Hearts 5K Run/Walk and four of the walkers did just that. LuAnn Buotte, Barbara Rajaniemi, Mitzi Sequoia and Annette Ross all registered for the second year in the local community event. Congratulations to all of them for completing the course in the 80 degree weather.
All participants that returned their completed log sheets were entered into a drawing for a new pair of walking shoes from Carlisle’s of Rumford. Congratulations to Ciara Giroux for picked as the lucky winner of the prize. The summer challenge is right around the corner, be watching for it in June.
