ONE OF A KIND?- This year, marking the 50th anniversary of the first Telstar satellite transmission, memories of the former “bubble” are being conjured up throughout the River Valley. This yellow gold necklace and earring set depicting the Telstar Radome was specially crafted in 1962 for Marion Jones by Mr. Schwinn of R.C. Jewelers, formerly of Congress Street, as a gift from her husband, Kenneth. The set was passed down to Jones’ daughter, Laura Riggs, in 2005. On the back is engraved, “Patent Pending.” Riggs is not sure if there are any others out there in existence, but noted, “It might possibly be for sale---for the right price.” (Times photo by Cherri Crockett)
