Sponsor banners a hit at GRCC

RUMFORD -- When you walk into the seating area above the gym at the Greater Rumford Community Center, the first thing you see are the 36 colorful 4x3-foot sponsorship banners all the way around the walls.

Bob Anderson, GRCC program director, said the advertisements are seen by a lot of people, particularly on nights when the kids play to a packed house. At $100 per year, he noted, "They offer a great value when compared to other forms of advertising."

"The banners go all the way around (the gym). We're thinking about other places (in the GRCC) for them as well," he noted, adding that some of the businesses/individuals also sponsor the basketball teams.

The project, formulated by Anderson former GRCC Volunteer of the Year Ed Paterson, began about a month ago. Making the signs has been Jeff Sterling.

Anderson said the necessity for fundraising became more acute as a result for a $15,000 expense to replace the furnace at the GRCC, combined with less funding from the town through initiated articles.

Earlier, the GRCC held another fundraiser with a flea market. The GRCC is now in its 100th year of operation.
