Members of the State Class C championship Dirigo boys' basketball team were presented with a Legislative sentiment by Dist. 93 Rep. Sheryl Briggs (front right) for their accomplishment in the Maine Legislature on April 6. Individual sentiments were presented to team member Cody St. Germain (back, left of Gold Ball) and to Dirigo senior Caleb Hall (front center), who recently won his second state wrestling title in the 132-pound weight division.


AUGUSTA -- The Dirigo boys' basketball team and wrestler Caleb Hall each won state championships and were duly recognized with at the State House on April 6.

The respective recipients each had Legislative Sentiments read before the entire 125th House of Represenitives (second regular session). Cougar senior basketball player Cody St. Germain was also honored for his accomplishments. 

The Cougars won the 2012 Class C title by beating Lee Academy at the Augusta Civic Center. It was the fourth straight appearance in the state game for the Cougars. It also avenged a 65-55 loss to Lee in the state game. The names of all the players, coaches, and managers were read, also. The state game ended a 29-year drought since Dirigo won state championships back-to-back in 1982 and 1983.

“We send our congratulations and best wishes to the members of the team on their achievement,” said Rep. Sheryl Briggs, Mexico, who was co-sponsored by Sen. John Patrick, Oxford and Tom Saviello, Franklin. “And be it ordered that this official expression of legislative sentiment be sent forthwith on behalf of the legislature and the people of the State of Maine.”

The members of the Senate and House joined in recognizing St. Germain, who was the winner for the second straight year of the C. Harry Edwards Award. This earned St. Germain as the most valuable player and sportsman of the Western Class C Tournament. In addition, the 6-4 St. Germain was also named the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year by the Mountain Valley Conference coaches. 

“We extend our congratulations to Cody on his achievements,” said Briggs, who was dwarfed by St. Germain while being photographed. “It was great to personally meet the team and individuals.”

Hall won the Class C State Wrestling Champion in the 132-pound weight division. It was the seniors second state crown, who had won as a freshman and includes three regional titles. Hall completed his career with the third most wins in school history.
