David L. Hodgkins

ROXBURY -- David L. Hodgkins, 69, went to meet his Lord and Savior on February 21, 2011 in Roxbury.

He was born on April 28, 1941 to Fred and Rutha (Merrill) Hodgkins in Rumford. Most of his life was spent in Roxbury, except when he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1959.

David spent his entire career at Mead Paper Company, where after 38 years of service, he retired as an assistant yard foreman. In addition to his work at the mill, he developed a small construction business of which he was very proud; he loved working with his trucks and tractors.

He also loved fixing and repairing snowmobiles and motorcycles and then selling them. He found it challenging, exciting and rewarding. It brought him great joy. David was a meticulous, honest, hard worker, who took great satisfaction in pleasing his customers.

On May 18, 1968, David married Bernadette St. Pierre in Rumford, and together they raised two daughters, Crystal and Paula.

In his free time, David spent a lot of time outdoors. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved four-wheeling, snowmobile riding and snowmobile racing. He always had a motorcycle and rode many a mile.

Because he was such a wonderful person, who was always willing to go out of his way to help anybody, he will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Life without him will be very difficult.

David is survived by his wife, Bernadette of Roxbury, and daughters, Crystal and Paula of Boston, MA; a brother, Bryant Hodgkins and wife, Priscilla of Roxbury; and several nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Steve.
