Michael Rae Mawhinney
BOSTON, MA -- Michael Rae Mawhinney, 56, died on complications from severe lung disease on March 6, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, with his family by his side.
Born on Feb. 11, 1955, he was the son of David E. Mawhinney and Joyce Rumley Mawhinney Peters. He graduated from Mexico High School.
From 1975-77, Michael served God and country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion. A quiet man, he loved all of nature, loved fishing and his special Pekinese dogs, Molly Girl and Kayla Rae. Many hours of enjoyable life were spent by Michael at the Rumford Library.
He is survived by his caring friend, Dinah Haines; his mother, Joyce Peters and step-father, Gregory Peters; his brother, David R. Mawhinney of Augusta; his sisters, Kim Mawhinney of Reno, NV, and Jill and her husband, Anthony Lehr, of Silver Springs, NV; his twin niece and nephew, Megan and David Ryan Mawhinney; his niece, Jessica Brian Stolting and his grand-niece and nephew, Amelia and Jarek Stolting; his uncle, Rayfield Mawhinney and wife, Shirley; his aunts, Geraldine Mawhinney, Ruth Theriault and Alice Rumley; and many cousins in the Rumley, Mawhinney, Gaudin and Theriault families.
Michael was predeceased by his father, David E. Mawhinney; his nana, Priscella E. Mawhinney and grandfather, David E. Mawhinney; his grandmother, Nattie Mowat Rumley, and grandfather, Charles C. Rumley.
The survivors wish to especially thank the staff at Rumford Hospital for their wonderful medical care and services over the years, as well as Radius Specialty Hospital in Boston where Michael spent the last three years of his life, and St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boston, MA. Michael will be forever and always in our hearts.
