Daniel J. Ames
RUMFORD -- Daniel J. Ames, 64, of Sunnyside Terrace passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Rumford on August 27, 1948, a son of Charles E. and Alice M. (Arsenault) Ames. Dan was educated in Mexico Schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School Class of 1966.
Following high school he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving for 20 years and retiring in 1987. He received an Associate’s Degree from Cisco Jr. College in Cisco, Texas, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics and Computer Information Systems from McMurray University in Abilene Texas, Class of 1993.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years in Texas, retiring in 2007, and then he moved to Maine. Dan loved square dancing and golfing with his brother Jim. He was an avid sports fan and loved spending time with his family.
Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Jeannie L. Ames of Rumford; two children, Robert Ames of Abilene, Texas and Diane Bryant of Tacoma, WA; step-mother, Elizabeth Ames of Lewiston; a brother, James Ames and wife, Trudy of Frostproof, FL; three sisters, Linda Phillips and husband, Gordon of Rumford, Brenda Eastman and husband, Bob of Mexico, and Charlene Spadea and companion, Gary Wentzell of Mexico; step-sister, Debi Benning of Wayne; and a grandson, Cody Bates of Clyde, Texas.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at SG Thibault Funeral Home. Interment will be in Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
