Joseph Anthoine Olin Bernard
RUMFORD POINT -- J.A. Ollin Bernard, 87, died peacefully at home March 10, 2012 of heart failure.
Born in Sweden on March 6 1925, the son of J. Eugene and Delia (Boudreau) Bernard. He grew up in South Rumford, attended Rumford schools, and was a graduate of Stephens High class of 1943.
He served as a Merchant Marine radio operator aboard Liberty ships during WW II.
He married Dorina (Martin) October 20, 1947. They shared a lifelong love for family, friends, and food. Olin was an avid gardener, hunter, and fisherman; a four season sportsman.
He worked briefly at the Oxford Paper Co., before establishing Bernard's Motor Exchange. Olin maintained his motor dealer liscense, and recently closed his salvage yard. He also workd for Isrealson's Dealership for more than 20 years, and then was a union millwright. Olin was a true Mainer, inventive, resourceful and productive.
He is survived by wife, Dorina; daughter, Rachael; sons, Olin E. and Martin; grandchildren, Brittney, Deidre, Allison, Olin E., Matthew, Charlie, Steven, Dorina, and Alix; and siblings Edgar, Theresa and Louis.
Olin was predecesed by siblings, Omer, Gloria, Martha, Babe, Doris and Louetta.
Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Saturday, with a reception to follow at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Rumford. In lieu of flowers, send donations to your favorite charity in J. A. Olin Bernard's name.
