Doris Cureton
CANTON -- Doris Cureton, 89, of Turner Street in Canton and longtime resident of Rumford, passed away on Nov. 2, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Mary Hubbard and partner Brad McKeen.
She was born in Rumford on December 5, 1922, a daughter of Louis and Alice (Richard) McGrath. Doris was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1941.
She served as a SGT in the US Air Force during WWII. Doris lived with her daughter, Donna Martin for 10 years in Auburn. She was a communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
Doris loved painting terra cotta pots, decorating, and knitting scarves. She also loved cooking for her family. One of Doris’ dreams was to visit Ireland, which she did in 2003 and 2005. She loved her dog Maddie. Doris brought joy and happiness to everyone she met.
Surviving are her children, Donna Martin and partner, Tom Ames of Auburn, Barbara Ferland and husband, Jerry of Rumford, Joyce Beaudoin and husband, Mike of Green, James Cureton of Rumford, Mary Hubbard and partner, Brad McKeen of Canton, and Steve Cureton of Rumford; 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Samuel W. Cureton, Jr.; a daughter, Faye Cureton; a brother, William McGrath; and four sisters, Elaine Foley, Susan, Jo and Linda.
Memorial visiting hours will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at SG Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St. in Rumford, with visitation by the Daughter of Isabella at 5:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior.
