Mavis "Ma" C. Burnham Dowland
CANTON -- Mavis "Ma" C. Burnham Dowland, 78, of the Victorian Villa, died on Sept. 28, 2011 with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Newry on May 1, 1933 to the late Lincoln and Hazel (Bucknam) Burnham. Mavis graduated from Stephens High School.
She loved to read and shared that love by working as a literacy volunteer helping others to learn how to read. Her favorite times were spent enjoying the company of family and friends, having cookouts, playing cards, playing bingo, and games like Scrabble and cribbage.
She is survived by her children, Barbara and Dale Stevens of Bethel, Edward Dowland of Augusta, Burton Dowland of Brockton, MA, Sharon Dowland of Lewiston, Diana Dowland and companion, Raymond Giger of Bar Harbor, Brent and Maki Dowland of Japan, Peter and Tracy Dowland of Peru Maine, Clancey and Amelia Dowland of Brockton Mass, Rodney and Laura Dowland of Vassalboro; close family friend, Donna Kenney of Standish; and 15 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by both of her parents; seven sisters; five brothers; and a son, Steven Dowland.
