Esther M. Drouin
RUMFORD -– Esther M. Drouin, 89, a resident of Rumford Community Home, formerly of 220 Franklin St., died unexpectedly on May 21, 2011 at Rumford Hospital.
She was born in Rumford on March 2, 1922 a daughter of Joseph and Concetta (Peperata) Curato. Esther attended local schools. She married Ronald “Lefty” Drouin on October 6, 1956 and together they celebrated 41 years of marriage. He died in 1997.
She was employed for many years at Dixfield Mill and later in the finishing room at Oxford Paper Company.
Esther was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior and was a member of the Sons of Italy. She enjoyed walking, knitting, playing bingo and family gatherings.
Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne M. Duguay and husband, Richard of Rumford, and Carol A. Plante of Rumford; a son, Gary L. Drouin of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Joseph Curato and wife, Mickie of Randolph; two sisters, Antoinette “Toni” Bill of Old Orchard Beach, and Philomena Brown of Gorham; eight grandchildren, Carrie Arsenault and husband, Jack, Kimberly Papsadora and husband, Michael, Christina Myatt and husband, Matthew, Aaron Capponi and wife, Colleen, Jason Capponi and fiancée, Jessica Andrews, Whitney Drouin, Rainey Drouin and Cecile Drouin; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ronald L. Drouin in 1997; six brothers, James, Pat, John, Larry, Dominic, and Frank Curato; and two sisters, Rose Buccina and Alice Sullivan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Parish of the Holy Savior. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Esther’s memory may be made to the Rumford Community Home, 11 John F. Kennedy Lane, Rumford, ME 04276.
