George Bernard Dubendris

LEWISTON -– George Bernard Dubendris, 72, of Urquhart Street, Rumford, died on May 22, 2011 at the Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Rumford on October 5, 1938, the son of Peter and Beatrice (Todd) Dubendris. He graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1956.

George served with the U.S. Marines from 1957 to 1960 and also in the Army National Guard of Maine.

He worked as a Methods Analyst in the Industrial Engineering Department at the Rumford Paper Mill until retirement in 1996 after more than 30 years.

He was an avid member of the AA for over 30 years and was active locally and on the state level, and had served as a sponsor, mentor and guide to many over the years. He was a ferociously independent thinker. George was known for his wit, sense of humor, and was a positive person. He loved his family and had many dear friends.

He was formerly married to Pauline Martin Dubendris of Oceanside, CA.

Survivors include his daughter, Sherree Craig and husband, Rob of South Thomaston; sons, Marty Dubendris of Oceanside, CA and Scott Dubendris of Sebago; four grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Kerri and Kyra Dubendris; a brother, Peter Dubendris and wife, Nancy of Wrentham, MA; and his favorite dog, “Dory."

A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Friends are invited to call after 11 a.m. Thursday prior to the service. Interment with Military Honors will be conducted at the Farrington-Morton Cemetery, Mexico. In lieu of flowers, please contribute in his memory to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O.
