Robert J. “Bob” Gallant
RUMFORD -- Robert J. “Bob” Gallant, 62, of South Rumford Road in Rumford, passed away on January 26, 2013 at his residence following a long illness.
He was born in Rumford on October 17, 1950, a son of Lewis A. and Marguerite (Belanger) Gallant. Bob was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1970.
After graduation, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force with the K-9 unit, serving four years. Bob was a sergeant with the Mexico Police Department and was seatbelt instructor and elder crime officer. He retired in 2005 after 25 years of service.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, storytelling and playing cards with his friends. Bob was a daily visitor at Dick’s Restaurant where he met and socialized with his many friends.
Surviving are his three children, Brian M. Gallant of Mexico, Heidi M. Gray and husband, Daniel of Livermore Falls, and Kyle J. Gallant of Mexico; brothers, William L. Gallant and wife, Beverly of Dixfield, and James K. “Smokie” Gallant and wife, Karen of Rumford; grandchildren, Dylan L. Gallant, Claudia M. Gallant and Riley M. Gray; great granddaughter, Brooklyn Gallant; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Kenneth, Timothy, and Stephen.
Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at S.G. Thibault Funeral Home, 250 Penobscot St. Rumford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Parish of the Holy Savior. Spring Internment will be in Pine View Cemetery, Roxbury.
