Evelyn Marie Mahoney Gaul
RUMFORD -– Evelyn Marie Mahoney Gaul, 84, of Rumford, died unexpectedly on November 11, 2012 at the Rumford Hospital shortly after admission.
She was born in Mexico (Ridlonville) on February 28, 1928 to Christie Stevens and Cecil Mahoney. She was their fourth child and third daughter. She attended local schools and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford in 1946.
She worked as a telephone operator before marrying Lawrence M. Gaul, the love of her life and best friend, on April 23, 1949.
Together they raised four daughters and had six wonderful grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and spent many great times at their camp Kacomola in East Andover.
Her sisters and their families would join them many times throughout the years as their children grew up. She loved visiting the ocean and for many years, she, her husband, sisters and their husbands would rent a cottage on Deer Island in Penobscot Bay.
She loved music and played both the guitar and piano. Lawrence and she used to travel extensively following his retirement and she especially enjoyed her time with her sister Beverly and their weekly shopping trips.
She is survived by her four daughters, Kathleen (Kathy) Richard and her husband, Greg of Dixfield, Colleen and her partner, Susan Manning of Conifer, CO, Maureen Boudreau and her husband, Mike of Rumford, and Laureen (Laurie) McKenna and her husband, Mark of Rumford. Her six grandchildren were one of the greatest joys in her life: Steve Richard of Sioux City, Iowa, Deanna Bennett and husband, Shawn of Rumford, Heath, Shay and Drew McKenna of Rumford, and Jennifer Boudreau of Rumford.
She is also survived by one sister. Beverly Jasud and her husband. Donald of Mexico and by her brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary Gaul of Damariscotta.
She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Lawrence in 2007; her sisters, Dot Dorr and Ruth Karpen; and brothers, Cecil Mahoney, Jr. and Thomas.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday at Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St John Church, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford.
