David Joseph Jannace
RUMFORD -- David Joseph Jannace, 71, of Ernest Street passed away on August 11, 2013 at Rumford Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Rumfordon July 27, 1942, a son of Peter J. and Mary (DiPinto) Jannace.
David was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School Class of 1962. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Okinawa.
For 40 years, David was a wholesale dealer in the fruit produce business and later was owner of Dave’s Fruit Stand in Mexico for many years.
His passion was selling his fruit and produce to many old and new customers, and he would travel to Boston to get fresh produce.
David was a history buff and enjoyed reminiscing with his cousin John Capponi and nephew Nick Lavorgna Jr. and other family members.
He was a member of the VFW Rumford, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the American Legion in Dixfield.
Surviving are his companion of 21 years, Evelyn Murray; two brothers, Peter Jannace and wife, Karen of Brockton, MA, and Francis Jannace and wife, Dorothy of Rumford; three sisters, Marion Arsenault, Pauline Lavorgna and husband, Nick Sr. of Peru, and Joanne Anderson and husband, Lee of Cherry Valley, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
Other survivors include his extended family, William Murray and wife, Kelly and children, Bruce Murray and wife, Paula and children, Kathy Rutherford and husband, Jeffrey and children, Kevin Murray and wife, Marcia and children, and his beloved poodle Santos.
He was predeceased by his parents; his nephew, Gregory Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Alvin Arsenault.
The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to the doctors and nurses at Rumford Hospital and CMMC, good friends and nurses at FML Umbagog Dialysis Center in Wilton, family friend Betty Sargent, and good friend Larry Gomez. Also many thanks to Evelyn for her endless trips taking David to dialysis and she was always there for him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parish of the Holy Savior.
