Wanda M. Kuras

RUMFORD -- Wanda M. Kuras, 89, formerly of River Street, passed away on April 20, 2011 at the Sandy River Center in Farmington of congestive heart failure.

She was born in Rumford on November 17, 1921 to Anna (Ankus) and Michael Lobikis. She graduated from Stephens High School in 1939.

She worked at Stanley’s Market, then Bill’s Market, which she became the proprietor of. In 1954, she married William (Bill) Kuras.

Wanda was an independent spirit, was a collector of books and buttons, and frequented many a yard sale looking for a "deal."

She was proud of her Lithuanian heritage and enjoyed many a sunset at Roxbury Pond. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rumford.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda Kuras and husband, Roger Desgrosseilliers of Roxbury Pond.

To quote her high school yearbook, “Twas only a glad good-morning as she passed along the way, but it spread the morning glory over the live-long day.”

She was predeceased by her father in 1942; her mother in 1980; her husband, William in 1961; and a brother, Matthew in 1992.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Sandy River Center for the wonderful care given to Wanda.

Graveside services will be held at Farrington Morton Cemetery in Mexico at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wanda’s memory may be made to McKennel’s Animal Adoption Agency, 88 Hall Hill Rd., Rumford, ME 04276.
