CANTON -- Catherine F. “Cappy” Litalien, 89, formerly of Harlow Hill Road in Mexico, passed away on January 24, 2013 at Victorian Villa following a long illness.

She was born in Mexico on March 23, 1923, a daughter of David and Charlotte (Sudsbury) McDonald. Cappy was educated in Mexico schools. While in high school, she enjoyed playing basketball and was a drum majorette.

She was employed for several years with Oxford Paper Company where she met her husband, Roland “Frenchy” Litalien. They were married on July 17, 1948 and together celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Later she was employed at Diamond Match Company in Dixfield. In the early 1960’s, Cappy became a beautician and had her own shop called Cappy’s Beauty Shop, which she operated for many years.

Cappy was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. She was a member of the LeParesseux Snow Shoe Club, Ladies Auxillary of the Eagles and served on the Mexico Planning Board for several years. She was an avid bowler and loved to play bingo and taught ceramics for many years. Cappy also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.

Surviving are her three sons, David Litalien and wife, Suzanne of Mexico, Gerald Litalien and wife, Elizabeth of Mexico, and Paul Litalien and companion, Tammy Martineau of Rumford; three sisters, Alice Goulde of Mexico, Barbara Gerrier of Rumford and Theresa Montoya of Arizona; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Roland “Frenchy” Litalien in 2011; four sisters, Flora Hoyt, Mary Mitchell, Olivine Wilson and Ester McDonald; and two brothers, Francis McDonald and John McDonald.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Victorian Villa and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Parish of the Holy Savior. Spring Internment will be in St. John Cemetery. If so desired, contributions in Cappy’s memory may be made to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 284 Main St., Suite 290, Wilton, ME 04294.
