Roland A. Pelletier Sr.

RUMFORD -– Roland A. Pelletier Sr., 88, of Waldo Street, Rumford, died on January 25, 2013 at the Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Rumford on September 11, 1924, the son of Joseph and Emelia (Martin) Pelletier. He had attended Rumford schools.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Ship’s Cook 2c from 1943 to 1946, including overseas in the Asiatic Pacific and Philippines.

Roland worked on the supercalenders as a helper and operator at Boise Cascade Paper Company for over 44 years until retirement in 1986. He had also worked for over 20 years part time at Puiia Hardware and Lumber Company and had his own business called Roland’s TV Antenna Installations for many years and also helped his wife with her business of Helen Pelletier Catering Service from 1972-1992.

He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius–St. John Church; member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion and Robert Shand Post #1641, VFW. He was formerly president of Concord Pond Campers Association in Woodstock. He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking and bingo with his friends.

He was married in Mexico on January 11, 1947 to the former Helen LeBlanc, who survives of Rumford.

Other survivors include sons Roland Pelletier, Jr. and wife, Judy of So. Rumford, and Paul Pelletier and wife, Jackie of So. Rumford; daughters, Margaret Hardy and husband, Michael of Jacksonville, FL, Kathleen Voter and husband, Colin of West Peru, Lorraine Milligan and husband, Brian of No. Rumford, and Georgette Hodgson and husband, Steven of Rumford; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a sister, Pearl LaBerge of Gray; a brother, Omer Pelletier and wife, Doris of Rumford; and his dog “Bingo."

He was predeceased by a twin son, Thomas Joseph Pelletier, who died in 1951.
