Helen L. Pelletier
RUMFORD -- Helen L. Pelletier, 88, died on August 15, 2013 at the Rumford Community Home. She was a resident of Waldo Street in Rumford.
Born in Rumford on Dec. 18, 1924, she was a daughter of Alyre and Phoebe (Breault) LeBlanc. She attended St. Theresa’s School and graduated from Mexico High School Class of 1943 and served as the class secretary for the class reunion.
After school she worked at Diamond National in West Peru, United Stores in Rumford, Oxford Paper Company, Rumford Community Hospital, Rummex Shoe Shop, Island Division Rumford and Songo Shoe in Rumford. From 1972 to 1992 she owned and operated Helen Pelletier Catering Service, with the help of her husband, Roland until her retirement.
Helen was a communicant of the Parish of The Holy Savior St. Athanasius – St. John Church in Rumford, and a life member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She loved her camp at Concord Pond and served as secretary and treasurer of the Concord Pond Camper’s Association in Woodstock. She served as president of the Oxford Lane Monday Night Bowling League. She also loved to read.
She was married in Mexico on January 11, 1947 to Roland A. Pelletier Sr., who died in Rumford on January 25, 2013.
Survivors include sons, Roland Pelletier, Jr. and his wife, Judy of South Rumford, Paul Pelletier of South Rumford; daughters, Margaret Hardy and husband, Michael of Jacksonville, FL, Kathleen Voter and husband, Colin of West Peru, Lorraine Milligan and husband, Brian of North Rumford, and Georgette Hodgson and husband, Steven of Rumford; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; her step mother, Elizabeth Sutton of Fort Bragg, CA; half sisters, Nadene Simmonnetti of California, Gerry Cahill of California and Patricia Stewart of California.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Roland; a twin son, Thomas Joseph Pelletier; sister, Susan Walker; brother-in-law, Joseph Simmonnetti; and biological parents, Arthur Sutton and Margaret Johnson Sutton.
Interment will be conducted for her and her husband Roland at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Those who desire may contribute to the St. Athanasius-St. John Church Building Fund, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford, ME 04276 in her memory.
