Ronald J. Roy
LEWISTON -– Ronald J. Roy, 80, of Rumford passed away on January 11, 2013 at C.M.M.C. following a brief illness with his loving family by his side.
Ron was born in Rumford on Dec. 24, 1932 the son of Aurele and Lucy (Richard) Roy.
After graduating from Stephens High School in Rumford Class of 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed in Berlin, Germany from 1953 to 1955, being discharged with a rank or Corporal. After returning from his military service, he married his high school sweetheart, Anna Robichaud, in Rumford on June 25, 1955.
He worked for H.P. Hood & Son until he and his wife purchased the Mexico Laundromat & Dry Cleaning in 1976, which they owned and operated until 2000.
Ron was a 30-year member of the Mexico Lions Club, a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion, LeParesseux Snowshoe Club, Rumford Falls Aerie #1248, F.O.E., and a volunteer with the Chisholm Ski Club. He was currently serving as the Chaplain and secretary of the Robert Shand Post #1641, V.F.W.
He enjoyed watching his beloved Red Sox and New England Patriots. He also enjoyed hunting camp with his brothers, bowling, fishing with his grandson, bluegrass festivals with friends and spending time with his family.
He was known for his outgoing personality, sense of humor and everyone looked forward to his jokes. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 57 ½ years of Rumford; his daughters, Cindy Gallant and husband, Mike of Roxbury, Sharon Sleis and husband, Bob of Northwood, NH, Karen Merrill and husband, Richard of Fairbanks, AK; his son, Timothy Roy and companion, Lacey Barcelou of Greene; grandchildren, Amy and Mike Gallant, Nicole Allen, and Kyleigh Roy; a great-granddaughter, Aliya Allen; his brothers, Richard Roy and wife, Joan of Payson, AZ, Leonard Roy of Rumford, Jim Roy and wife, Vivian of Dixfield, Jay Roy and wife, Tammy of Belton, TX; a sister, Barbara Doherty of Rumford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Ernest Roy of Lewiston.
Interment in the spring with Military Honors will be conducted at St. John Cemetery, Rumford. Friends are invited to contribute to The Arbor House, 300 Main St., Lewiston, ME 04240 in his memory.
